  • 2019 Caucus Annual Meeting & Legislative Session Preview

Join us at our 2019 Annual Meeting & Legislative Session for a day of reflection on the recent elections, a look back at the previous legislative session, a look ahead at the upcoming 2019 legislative session, and important training to help you become a better Second Amendment activist in 2019.

    Why you should attend

This is going to be an exceptionally difficult legislative biennium over the next two years.  We have an anti-gun Governor who campaigned on significant gun control - and a deeply anti-gun House of Representatives, many of which campaigned on all sorts of crazy gun control ideas.

We're going to need a highly engaged group of members and activists in order to put the stop to these gun control efforts before they get out of the gate in the upcoming legislative session.

During the meeting, we'll be providing a number of important updates, hearing from legislators that support and defend the Second Amendment in Saint Paul, and conducting a brief activist training session at the end of the day to help prepare you to motivate your friends and neighbors, engage with legislators, and even testify before committees.

We're still finalizing the agenda, but here's an idea of what's on tap:

    • 8:30am - 9:00am -- Registration / Coffee / Social Time
    • 9:00am - 12:00pm -- General Session (see below for details)
    • 12:00pm - 1:00pm -- Lunch (with various speakers)
    • 1:00pm - 2:30pm -- General Session (see below for details)
    • 2:30pm - 3:30pm -- Activist Training (optional)

We'll also have tables from several exhibitors along with many giveaways.

    General Session Topics:

    • A look back at the 2017-2018 legislative session - lessons learned for gun owners & activists
    • The 2018 Elections
    • The upcoming Legislative Session - What can we expect? What's on the agenda?
    • Local activism - what is your city council up to?  How we're staying engaged at a city level.
    • How can each of us learn to be better communicators about the Second Amendment with our friends, family, neighbors, and elected officials?
    • Remarks from sitting Representatives and Senators
    • Updates from partner organizations
    • Open Discussion / Q&A

    • General Admission:  $25.00
    • Second Amendment Defenders:  If you donate $25 or more each month, you're in for FREE!

  • The upcoming legislative session in Minnesota will be a challenging one for gun owners.

Unlike the last several sessions, we now have a strong anti-gun majority in the Minnesota House - and only a single vote keeps a mostly anti-gun faction from taking control in the Senate. On top of that, incoming Governor Tim Walz campaigned on a strong platform of gun control and has promised to take immediate action upon assuming office.

Groups like Michael Bloomberg's "Everytown" and "Moms Demand Action" spent millions of dollars to bring their out-of-state funded anti-gun politics to the door of the Minnesota legislature.

It's time for law-abiding gun owners from across Minnesota to make their voices heard at the State Capitol.

At Gun Owners Lobby Day on January 24th, 2019 - you'll have a chance to meet with both your State Senator and State Representative and let them hear directly from you. You'll also be able to drop by Governor Walz's office and leave him a note expressing your opposition to his agenda of failed gun control strategies.

    Why you should attend

Anti-gun groups and their activists will be at the state capitol multiple times during the 2019 session, just as they have been in year's past. It's critical that elected officials, even if they support gun control initiatives, hear directly from you as their constituent.

The Details:  Where, when, and what will I be doing?

Gun Owners Lobby Day will be Thursday, January 24th, 2019. You can arrive to lobby any time between 9:00 am and 3:30 pm.

We'll be at the Minnesota State Capitol Complex at 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd, Saint Paul, MN 55155.

If you're available to join us, there will be a Press Conference at 10:00am in the State Capitol Building. We'd like as many gun owners as possible standing behind us during the press event. We'll share more details as the date gets closer.

    • Parking
    • Upon Arrival:  Head for the State Capitol Building.
    • Check in with our volunteers in the L'Etoile du Nord Vault Room
      • They'll have packets of material for you, including a list of current pro-gun and anti-gun bills, speaking points to use with legislators, a card to leave a note for Governor Walz, and maps/directions to legislative offices for the House and Senate.
      • Our staff and volunteers will be able to answer any questions you have about the legislative process, current bills, ratings for legislators, and information about the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus and PAC.

    • Go meet with your legislators!
      • Closer to Lobby Day, we'll share information about scheduling time with your legislators so that you can have uninterrupted time to talk with them about your concerns.

      • We'll have easy to follow speaking points to get you through the conversation - and maps to help you navigate through the complex.

    • Come back to the Capitol Building and drop off your card at the Governor's Office
      • Leave your card with the staff in the reception area at the Governor's Office.

    • Check out with our volunteers in the L'Etoile du Nord Vault Room
      • Let us know how things went!
      • Get any other questions answered that you might have.

We're fortunate in Minnesota to have a highly available citizen-legislature that welcomes engagement from all political spectrums and beliefs. Even if your Representative or Senator supports gun control, you'll generally find them open to discussion and the chance to hear from a constituent.

Note:  You may carry a handgun at the State Capitol Complex as long as you have a valid Minnesota Permit to Carry. Long-gun carry inside the buildings is prohibited by statute. We recommend carrying concealed.

This is a critically important event in the upcoming legislative session. We hope to see you there!

Join the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus for a Rally to Defend the 2nd Amendment in the Minnesota State Capitol Rotunda on February 23rd, 2019 from 11:00am - 12:30pm.

Michael Bloomberg's out-of-state gun control agenda will be in full force during the 2019 legislative session after spending more than $1 million electing an anti-gun majority in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

We need to keep up the pressure all throughout session to stop gun control in its tracks. What better way than to have thousands of law-abiding gun owners rally to make sure their voices are heard?

We will have speakers from all over the gun rights movement here in Minnesota, including elected officials.

    • 10:00am: Doors open
    • 11:00am - 12:30pm: Rally

We're holding the event on a Saturday so that folks that work during the week can attend - and indoors so that we can avoid any weather challenges in February.

    More details to follow.

Note:  You may carry a handgun at the State Capitol Complex as long as you have a valid Minnesota Permit to Carry. Long-gun carry inside the buildings is prohibited by statute. We recommend carrying concealed.

We hope to see you there!
