To the Members of the Minnesota Legislature:

  • Whereas, the anti-gun movement, led by state groups like Protect Minnesota and Michael Bloomberg's out of state-funded Everytown, is attempting to take advantage of recent tragedies to drive home their agenda of gun control.

  • Whereas, State Representative Linda Slocum, along with several of her anti-gun colleagues, have introduced the worst gun control bill seen in a decade in the state.

  • Whereas, the bill established a ban on the sale or transfer of most semi-automatic handguns, rifles, and shotguns in the state, including many commonly owned hunting firearms.

  • Whereas, the bill requires registration of all firearms in a database held by your local police. This database requires an annual fee - and forces you to allow the police to inspect your home without a warrant at any time.

  • Whereas, the bill bans possession of suppressors, despite their lack of use in criminal activity.

  • Whereas, the bill contains many other measures that would destroy our Second Amendment rights.

Therefore, as a law-abiding gun owner, I call upon all members of the Minnesota
Legislature to OPPOSE HF 3022 - the Slocum Gun Ban Bill!

Current laws are effective. The anti-gun agenda is simply attempting to blame rather than hold individuals accountable. No Bill Of Rights errosion would be tolerated.

What this bill is proposing is unconstitutional. It is also Illegal under current HIPPA regulations for medical data to be requested by law enforecment. It is dangerous to make law abiding citizens register their address to the public for any potential criminal to see. It is also dangerous to automatically make law abiding citizens criminals, when before this bill would be enacted, have broken no law. This bill a vast overstep in this debate and should be dealt with as such.

I do strongly believe that freedoms including gun rights shall never be taking away from law-abiding citizens. Just look at the states and countries with very strict gun laws. Are they free from crime? What about the recent shooting in the school in Maryland? Did very strict gun laws in that state (assault weapons ban, magazine size limitations, universal background checks, gun registration requirements, etc.) prevent the tragedy? On the other hand, presence of a trained, armed, and brave security officer in that school stopped the threat in less than a minute, most likely preventing more casualties and turning into an even worse tragedy. Taking gun rights away from people only helps criminals as they do not care about any laws to begin with. It also hurts law-abiding citizens and takes away their means for self defense. Why should we be left helpless against criminals? Why people who like hunting or target shooting and do not break any laws should suffer? So whos interests politicians who introduce those kind of bills represent? We should all think of this and hold them accountable at the next re-election!

Notice the left never proposes anything to protect schools except for gun rights infringments. Their real agenda is to disarm the citizenry. They play the long game. If only shotguns were legal, guess what their next target would be.

Slocum should be jail for violation of constitutional rights! How can someone be called a law maker when they shred the constitution and bill of rights in the country they are sworn to serve? This is an overstep that must not be ignored.
