Tell Rep. Norton No!

Norton_-_Bill_Filed.jpg

Rep. Kim Norton introduced a bill on January 28th, 2016 that would put numerous new obstacles in the path of law-abiding gun owners across the State of Minnesota.

Her bill, purporting to be a "gun safety bill" would require the following:

  • Universal registration of firearms
  • Mandatory government training to even own a gun
  • 28 day waiting period to pickup your newly purchased firearm
  • Mandated storage procedures - meaning that government will tell you how to store your firearms

Representative Norton's gun control bill is filled with the failed gun control strategies of the past, and ignores actions that she could have introduced that would have actually impacted gun violence, such as improving access to mental health, dealing with the widespread under sentencing of firearms crimes in the courts, and adding funding to urban police forces where gun violence remains a challenge.

Here are some actions that you can take TODAY to help us put a halt to Rep. Norton's gun control bill:

  1. Add your name to this petition by signing below. We'll deliver it to Representative Norton's office right after the start of the upcoming legislative session.

  2. Call Rep. Norton at 651-296-9249. Tell Rep. Norton that you are opposed to her gun control legislation and want to see the focus where it belongs - on improving access to mental health care, helping police deal with violent gun crime, and addressing the widespread under sentencing of firearms crimes in the courts.

  3. Send an e-mail to Rep. Norton to re-iterate your points. Be polite, but firm.

  4. Join the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus and help us in the 24x7 fight to protect your constitutional rights as a gun owner in Minnesota.

Representative Norton:

In your press release on January 28th, 2016, you unveiled a "gun safety" bill filled with the failed gun control strategies of the past, including:

  • Universal Registration
  • Mandatory Government Training to own a firearm
  • 28 Day Waiting Period
  • Mandated Storage Procedures

As a law-abiding gun owner in Minnesota, we demand that you end your support for this sort of ineffective gun control and focus on strategies that will actually impact gun violence in the state, including improving access to mental health, dealing with the widespread under sentencing of firearms crimes in the courts, and adding funding to urban police forces where gun violence remains a challenge.

In 1928, the Weimer Republic passed the Law on Firearms and Ammunition. It’s main premise was gun registration. A year before Adolf Hitler took power in 1933, the German Interior Minister directed that gun registration records be made secure to keep them from falling “into the hands of radical elements.” The records fell into the hands of the Nazi government, which used them to disarm its political enemies and the Jews. Had this not taken place, the Holocaust may never have happened. We will never know. I suggest you read “Gun Control in the Third Reich” by Stephen P. Halbrook. And I say ABSOLUTELY NOT to your bill!

I will leave the state as soon as I can if something this outrages becomes law. I will take my significant taxable asset to a state that deserves my money and my support. The extent to how much the biased federal and state government seeks to create jobs through regulation is killing this country.
